This is a beautifully written book. It is about two boys who survive the Civil War that returns home in the form of their fathers and one uncle. The physical wounds of the three soldiers pale beside their inner wounds, wounds that formed before the war.
Junior is the son of a free Negro/Indian and best friend of Web, the son of the town’s most prosperous businessman and lawyer. Because of the bond between them, as tight as twins, they become the healing salve for their parents.
This is a five-star book.
